Emily is Eighteen!

Emily turned 18 today! She is an amazing girl, and we are lucky to have her as our oldest child. She has a lot of faith, and she is living a virtuous life, which is amazing in this day and age. She has read the Book of Mormon so many times that she lost count, and she has been a missionary in the way she acts when she is around other people, especially her peers. We are so proud of her and all the service she gives to others. She has a lot of empathy for people who are having problems, she's a good friend, and she is a great example to her siblings and her parents. And she's beautiful, too!
How exciting!

Getting ready to blow out the candles

I think Emily was worried about blowing out ALL those candles!

She did it!

Emily's got a date!

Emily got a happy surprise today. Well, it wasn't a complete surprise because a certain young man had been acting suspicious. After seminary, Emily went into the high school for lunch. Her friend Tanner ate his lunch very quickly, acting nervous the whole time. Then he left abruptly. Pretty soon, another young man named Kevin stood up on his chair and shouted, "Emily Goates, Emily Goates! Will you go to homecoming with me?" Then almost immediately, another young man named Matt stood up and said, "No, she's going with me. Emily, you'll go to homecoming with me won't you?" and they started arguing. Then a third boy stood up and said, "Emily, will you go to homecoming with me?" and he joined in the debate of "No, she's going with me!" with the other two boys. After a minute, Tanner came walking in with a bouquet of flowers and said, "Emily, will you go to homecoming with me?" Of course he was the one who staged the whole thing, and Emily was excited to be asked! Homecoming is September 12th!
